An eSIM for the UAE on eSIM SOS costs from $4.75 for 1 GB valid 7 days (as of October 26, 2026), runs on the du network, and is up and running two minutes after you land in Dubai. The Emirates are one of the most expensive destinations for mobile data, so below we show the prices honestly, explain why they are what they are, and answer the main question about the UAE: what happens to WhatsApp and FaceTime calls.

How much an eSIM for the UAE costs

The cheapest UAE plan is 1 GB for 7 days at $4.75 (as of October 26, 2026). The catalog updates automatically, so the full list with live prices and the price per GB is on the eSIM for the UAE page.

PackageValidityGood for
1 GB7 daysa stopover or a short business trip
3 GB15 daysa week without video
5 GB30 daysa week with stories and video calls
10 GB30 daysremote work
20 GB30 daysheavy use or a long stay

Prices are shown in US dollars. Crypto is charged at the current exchange rate; bank cards issued in Russia and SBP are charged in rubles at the Central Bank rate on the day of payment.

Why so expensive. The UAE telecom market is shared between two carriers, and they sell traffic to foreign partners at high wholesale rates, which is why the Emirates cost about three times more than Turkey at every eSIM service. The alternatives are not cheap either: tourist packages from the local carriers at the airport start at several tens of dirhams, and home-carrier roaming for the UAE is traditionally among the priciest anywhere. Check your own carrier's roaming page for current prices.

How much data to take for a week in Dubai

Hotels and malls in Dubai have Wi-Fi everywhere, so mobile data is needed in taxis, on the beach, on trips to Abu Dhabi and on excursions. A week without video fits into 2–3 GB: maps, Careem taxis, a translator and messengers use 200–400 MB a day. With active stories and video calls home, take 5 GB. Packages of 10–20 GB make sense for remote work.

Which network the eSIM uses in the UAE

The Emirates have two carriers: e& (formerly Etisalat) and du. Travel eSIMs connect to one of them as a roaming profile; the specific network is listed in the plan's description. 4G and 5G coverage in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah is among the best in the world, including the metro and the highways between the emirates. Gaps are possible only in the desert on safari and in the Hajar mountains.

WhatsApp, FaceTime and Telegram calls

The main peculiarity of the UAE: internet calling is regulated by TDRA. According to the TDRA FAQs, calling through an app is legal only if the app is licensed by TDRA, works together with du or e&, or is approved by TDRA. Other app calls are, in the regulator's words, most likely illegal, and carriers may block them. We could not confirm whether WhatsApp, Telegram or FaceTime are on the approved list. Text messages, photos and files are not covered by the calling rules.

The rules apply within the country and do not depend on the SIM: a travel eSIM gives you data but does not change the law, so we cannot promise that messenger calls will go through. If voice contact matters, regular calls from your home SIM in roaming or from a local SIM are more reliable. Among apps, du allows BOTIM on its mobile data.

How to activate the eSIM in the UAE

Install the profile at home over Wi-Fi: scan the QR code from the email, wait for "Done", and do not turn the line on until you land. The validity period starts at the first connection to a UAE network, not at installation.

After landing:

  1. Open Settings → Cellular (on Android: Connections → SIM manager).
  2. Turn the new eSIM on and assign it to mobile data; keep your home SIM for calls and SMS.
  3. Turn on Data Roaming specifically for the eSIM line. Without it there will be no internet.
  4. If there is still no network after 2–3 minutes, toggle Airplane Mode off and on, then pick the network manually.

The detailed instructions with screenshots are in how to activate an eSIM abroad, and the list of compatible phones will help you check your device.

Do you need a passport

A local SIM card in the UAE is issued against a passport with registration at the carrier. A travel eSIM works as a roaming profile and needs no registration: the purchase takes two minutes online, and there is no need to look for a carrier desk at Dubai airport after a long flight.

How to pay

Pay with crypto (USDT TRC20 or TON) from any country; bank cards issued in Russia (Mir, Visa, Mastercard) and SBP are also accepted, in rubles. No registration and no app are needed. The QR code appears on the confirmation page and arrives by email. If the eSIM isn't compatible with your phone, including a carrier-locked one, or does not work, you get a refund or a replacement eSIM.

What to do if there is no internet

Check three things: the eSIM line is on, Data Roaming is on for that line, and that line is selected for mobile data. Then toggle Airplane Mode and pick the network manually. If that does not help, write to support on Telegram or by email.
