Which Phones Support eSIM in 2026: The Full Model List and a 10-Second Check

eSIM is supported by almost every mid-range and premium smartphone released since 2018–2019: every iPhone from the XS and XR, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel from the third generation, and recent flagships from Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, Motorola and OnePlus. The regional version matters more than the model, though: iPhones from China and Hong Kong and Chinese versions of Xiaomi have no eSIM chip. Below is the full list by brand, a 10-second check and an explanation of carrier locking.

How to check your phone in 10 seconds

The most reliable method does not depend on lists or regional versions:

1. Open the Phone app and dial *#06#.
2. The screen shows the IMEI numbers. If there is an EID line (32 digits) among them, the phone has an eSIM chip.
3. Then check the settings: on iPhone "Cellular → Add eSIM", on Android "Connections" or "Network & internet → SIM cards → Add eSIM". If the option is there, a profile will install.

If there is an EID but no such option, the phone is most likely carrier-locked or running a regional firmware with the feature disabled.

iPhone

Every iPhone since 2018 supports eSIM, except versions for mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, where Apple fits two physical SIM slots instead. In the US, models from the iPhone 14 onward ship without a SIM tray at all, eSIM only.

Important for buyers of grey-import iPhones: check the model's region. Dual physical SIM versions (China and Hong Kong markings) do not support eSIM even though they look identical. The region is in "Settings → General → About → Model Number": Chinese versions end in CH/A, Hong Kong ones in ZA/A.

Samsung Galaxy

Samsung added eSIM to its flagships in 2020 and is gradually bringing it to the mid-range. Carrier-specific regional versions may lack eSIM even on supported models, so the *#06# check is essential.

• Galaxy S: S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, S25 and all their Plus, Ultra and FE versions (FE has eSIM from the S23 FE).
• Galaxy Z: every Z Flip and Z Fold from the first generation.
• Galaxy Note: Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.
• Galaxy A: A54, A55, A56, A35, A36 in global versions; earlier and cheaper A-series models have no eSIM.

Google Pixel

• Pixel 3, 3 XL, 3a, 3a XL and everything after: Pixel 4, 4a, 5, 5a, 6, 6a, 6 Pro, 7, 7a, 7 Pro, 8, 8a, 8 Pro, 9, 9a, 9 Pro, 9 Pro Fold, 10 and 10 Pro.
• On the Pixel 3 and 3a, some regions have eSIM disabled by carrier firmware.

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO

eSIM is present only in global and European versions; Chinese versions lack it. Supported:

• Xiaomi 12T Pro, 13, 13 Pro, 13 Lite, 13T, 13T Pro, 14, 14T, 14T Pro, 15, 15 Ultra.
• Selected Redmi Note 13 Pro+ and POCO F6 Pro units in European versions. Most Redmi and POCO phones have no eSIM.

Huawei and Honor

• Huawei P40, P40 Pro, P50 Pro, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 50 Pro and newer in global versions. Note that on new Huawei phones without Google services eSIM works, but some eSIM providers' apps are unavailable, so buying on a website and installing from a QR code is more convenient.
• Honor Magic4 Pro, Magic5 Pro, Magic6 Pro, Magic7 Pro, Magic V2 and V3 in global versions.

Motorola, OnePlus, Oppo, Sony and others

• Motorola: Razr (2019) and all later Razr models, Edge 30 Pro, Edge 40, Edge 40 Pro, Edge 50 Pro, Edge 50 Ultra, Moto G Power 5G (2024) and several G-series models from 2024.
• OnePlus: 11, 12, 13 in European and Indian versions; eSIM is disabled in some regions.
• Oppo: Find X3 Pro, Find X5, Find X5 Pro, Find X8, Find X8 Pro, Reno 6 Pro 5G and newer in global versions.
• Sony: Xperia 1 IV, 1 V, 1 VI, 5 IV, 5 V, 10 IV, 10 V, 10 VI.
• Nothing: Phone (2), Phone (2a), Phone (3a), Phone (3).
• Fairphone: 4 and 5.

Tablets, watches and laptops

• iPad: iPad Pro since 2018, iPad Air from the 3rd generation, iPad mini from the 5th, iPad from the 7th, in Wi-Fi + Cellular versions. A travel eSIM installs the same way as on a phone and is handy if you work from a tablet on the road.
• Android tablets: Galaxy Tab S9 and newer, Pixel Tablet with a cellular modem and some Lenovo and Huawei models.
• Watches: Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch with eSIM use your home carrier's profile and do not work with travel eSIMs.
• Laptops: some Surface, ThinkPad and Dell models with 5G modems accept eSIMs, convenient for working on the move.

Carrier locking: why a compatible phone rejects the profile

Phones bought on contract or in instalments from a carrier are often locked to that carrier's SIM cards. This has nothing to do with eSIM technology: the same phone would reject a foreign physical card too. The symptom is the same: scanning the QR code produces "This plan cannot be added" or "SIM not supported".

Only the carrier can remove the lock, usually after the contract ends or the instalments are paid off. On iPhone check "Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock": it should say "No SIM restrictions". Phones bought unlocked at retail are normally not locked.

What to do if your phone has no eSIM

Two options. First: bring a second eSIM-capable device, for example an old iPhone XR or a cellular iPad, and tether from it. Second: buy a physical SIM card on arrival, weighing the pros and cons in eSIM vs. physical SIM. Do not order an eSIM for an incompatible phone: the profile is single-use and most services do not refund it.

Pre-purchase checklist

1. *#06# shows an EID.
2. The settings offer "Add eSIM".
3. The phone is not carrier-locked.
4. For iPhone: the region is not China, Hong Kong or Macau.
5. The operating system is up to date: on old iOS and Android versions the profile installation sometimes hangs.
